Ever have regrets in your life?

This is another one that was a winner at the Big Bear Lake film festival. It started out a little slow at the beginning but it picked up soon after.

It's about a man recently released from prison who is hoping to get back together with his wife and son. But it seems the more he tries to prove he's a better man, the more he fails, and the worse the trouble he gets into.

Anthony (Mark Irvingsen) has just been released from prison and wants to get back with his wife, Jade (Yassmin Alers) and son, Little Man (Luciano Rauso). Duncan (Jim Storm) gives Anthony a job at his salvage yard because Anthony's father helped him out in the past. Anthony's trouble starts right from the beginning when he gets into a confrontation with a cop on his way to his first day of work, and it's downhill from there.

The salvage yard has a true gritty feel to it. After watching the first scene in the salvage yard I felt like I needed to take a shower. I was surprised to find it had been filmed in an area close to me.

Anthony's wife is supposed to be moving away with his son in a few months, but when he finds out they are moving the next day he pays a surprise visit. His wife isn't happy about seeing him which leads to another confrontation. But he manages to talk her into letting him take his son fishing for a few hours since they are leaving. It's obvious his son really wants a father and his family to be together again, but is angry about the situation as well.

It's a very dark movie about a lot of people that are unhappy with the lives they are leading. Some are trying to make it better and some are just trying to deal with what they have. This is a pretty good movie and worth seeing, but leave the kids at home.

Warning possible spoilers below.

From this point on I want to warn you there may be spoliers.
I found myself actually rooting for Anthony, that he would get his life together and I felt disappointed when he couldn't do it. When I saw him helping the elderly lady I was thinking that Anthony really was a good guy. But then through flashbacks when you see what actually took place I shocked and sad. After seeing what he did I knew Anthony didn't have a chance at redemption.

Anthony is hoping to get back together with his wife but soon finds out she is already seeing someone else and is moving away with him. This leads to a very ugly scene with deadly consequences.

I'm not so sure about the ending scene with the cop. It was kind of a confusing flash of images and gunshots. If I had been watching it on dvd I probably would have replayed that scene.
