Welcome to "Cinema Herald". My aim is to bring movie reviews to a somewhat different level. I don't know about you guys but I'm sick and tired of Critics who dissect a movie to bits. Who cares about all that deep stuff, sometimes you just want to know if you'll be entertained or not. Is it worth me spending $10? Now don't get me wrong, sometimes when we watch a movie, it does require us to put on our thinking caps and I'll do that from time to time depending on the film I review but for the most part, I just want to know if I'm going to have a laugh or a cry or even crap my pants - in other words, will it take my mind off the fact that I'm broke and my rent is due for a few hours? Movies are a public service...they are to help us escape for a few hours and forget that we're overworked and under paid.

Coming Soon: Let Me In (First Official US Trailer)

First and foremost John Doe gives terrific insight and his thoughts pertaining to this re-make or re-adaptation of the Swedish Novel, "Let The Right One In" by John Ajvide Lindqvist. I highly recommend you read more from JD here: "Let Me In" - John Doe's Trailer of the Moment

Secondly at this year's Comic-con, director Matt Reeves of "Cloverfield" fame has released more scenes from his remake about a bullied young boy (Smit-McPhee) befriends a young vampire girl (Moretz) who lives with her guardian, which has, so far, impressed American audiences and there's also a new Official Trailer that has hit the Net. FirstShowing.Net's two premiere film geeks. Alex and Tim, couldn't get enough of the what they saw - you can read about it here: "Let Me In" continues to impress.

I'm skeptical about all remakes and while this movie looks intense enough, I'm still a bit reserved.

My only complaints is that I'm really not so sure about Chloe Moretz. I think she's a very capable actress but now, I'm not seeing her in this role...and there seems to be a bit more exposition than needed. What worked for the first film is that "less was more".

Oh well, this movie opens in the US on October 1, 2010.

Thoughts??

Thanks for the props Deni,

This latest trailer makes me think there is very little hope for the remake...wrong tone, stereotyped dialogue etc

JD No worries.

I'm going to see it and try not to compare it to the original. As hard as they may be.

Cheers,
D.

I don't know if I will see it or not...but it's comparisons to the novel that dictate my perspective. Even though cinema is a different medium, the source is always a factor once you have digested it.
