Welcome to "Cinema Herald". My aim is to bring movie reviews to a somewhat different level. I don't know about you guys but I'm sick and tired of Critics who dissect a movie to bits. Who cares about all that deep stuff, sometimes you just want to know if you'll be entertained or not. Is it worth me spending $10? Now don't get me wrong, sometimes when we watch a movie, it does require us to put on our thinking caps and I'll do that from time to time depending on the film I review but for the most part, I just want to know if I'm going to have a laugh or a cry or even crap my pants - in other words, will it take my mind off the fact that I'm broke and my rent is due for a few hours? Movies are a public service...they are to help us escape for a few hours and forget that we're overworked and under paid.

Coming Soon: Shanghai - John Cusack (Trailer)

May 27th 2010 01:47
Category: Coming Soon!, Drama
U.S. Release Date: TBA
Director: Mikael Håfström
Starring: John Cusack, Chow Yun-Fat, Ken Watanabe, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, David Morse, Franka Potente, Li Gong, Rinko Kikuchi

Shanghai is about an American man who returns to a corrupt, Japanese-occupied Shanghai four months before Pearl Harbor and discovers his friend has been killed. While he unravels the mysteries of the death, he falls in love and discovers a much larger secret that his own government is hiding - imdb.com

The cinematography looks beautiful and I can't help but remember John Cusack when he was a dorky looking teenager in 16 Candles with Molly Ringwald - my has he grown. Love period films but to be honest, this is the kind of movie I like to see at home. I have no doubt that it's going to be good but when I pay to see a movie it has to be extra-ordinary.

Swedish filmmaker Mikael Håfström also directed Days Like This, Drowning Ghost, Derailed and 1408. Oscar nominated writer Hossein Amini (Jude, The Wings of the Dove, The Four Feathers, and also Killshot) wrote the script.

Distribution rights will be through The Weinstein Company, however there is no information on when the movie will be release - most likely in the fall of this year.

Count me as a big John Cusack fan too,

His comedy work is stellar but i am much more attracted to his dramatic roles in films like Max (You can read my review of Max HERE) and Grace is Gone...very promising trailer too.
