Coming Soon: Takers (Trailer)
May 8th 2010 17:29
U.S. Release Date: August 20, 2010
Director: John Luessenhop
Starring: Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba, Paul Walker, Hayden Christiansen, Michael Ealy, Matt Dillon, and Chris Brown
"Takers" revolves around a notorious group of criminals (Idris Elba, Paul Walker, Chris Brown, Hayden Christiansen, Michael Ealy, T.I.) who continue to battle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. They are in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind and laying low in between heists. But when they attempt to pull off one last job with more money at stake than ever before, the crew may find their plans interrupted by a hardened detective (Matt Dillon) who is hell-bent on solving the case.
This is director John Luessenhop's second feature film. His first was an obscure movie in 2000 called "Lockdown",. Yeah, I never heard of it either but if the studios trusted him enough to take over this film, then just maybe he has a future.
Bank heist movies, to me, are really hard to pull off. There's only so much you can do to deceive your audience into thinking the movie is going in one direction and then suddenly pulling the rug out from under them with a surprise ending - enough to leave them satisfied. This movie seems to be following the same old formula as "The Italian Job" and "The Bank Job" but I will give it the benefit of the doubt. I love a well executed heist movie and while I don't think this will be anything earth shattering, I will say that it still might be entertaining enough to waste $10.00 on - maybe.
