Welcome to "Cinema Herald". My aim is to bring movie reviews to a somewhat different level. I don't know about you guys but I'm sick and tired of Critics who dissect a movie to bits. Who cares about all that deep stuff, sometimes you just want to know if you'll be entertained or not. Is it worth me spending $10? Now don't get me wrong, sometimes when we watch a movie, it does require us to put on our thinking caps and I'll do that from time to time depending on the film I review but for the most part, I just want to know if I'm going to have a laugh or a cry or even crap my pants - in other words, will it take my mind off the fact that I'm broke and my rent is due for a few hours? Movies are a public service...they are to help us escape for a few hours and forget that we're overworked and under paid.

Coming Soon: The Heartbreaker (French trailer Eng. Sub)

August 4th 2010 02:16
U.S. Release: September 10, 2010
Director: Pascal Chaumeil
Starring: Vanessa Paradis, Romain Duris

The Heartbreaker looks like a charming French comedy that is possibly a similar version of Hitch (2005) starring Will Smith and Kevin James. This time around Alex (Romain Duris) and his sister run a business designed to break up relationships. They are hired by a rich man to break up the wedding of his daughter (Vanessa Paradis). The problem is they only have one week to end it and the other problem is that Alex is quite possibly falling in love.

Director Pascal Chaumeil is mostly known for his work in French TV and Film. He was a second unit director for Luc Besson on The Fifth Element. The screenplay was co-written by French writers Laurent Zeitoun, Jeremy Doner and Yohan Gromb

This looks pretty good.

Ooo I saw this film a few months ago, before it was officially released over here in the UK. I thought actually it was a pretty good film (big thing for me - not really a rom-com girl), and was presented pretty well.

I have to correct you when you compare it to "Hitch" however, I don't think it's that similar at all - less Hollywood, a different premise and generally a stronger film. Only similarities really are charismatic characters, and the whole romantic comedy thing (although this film delivers more laughs I think).

If you're interested I reviewed it here so you can have a look and see what you think. Definately worth a watch either way :]

Hi Lyzsi, I'll be happy to read your review .

I understand it's not the same as Hitch - I have not seen this movie at all and it's just a guess based on the trailer. Then again, trailers are not a good way to judge a move. The lead in this movie is actually the opposite of Will's character.

Oh yeah...I get that. I haven't actually seen the trailer yet...so I'll give it a look. I find I like it when a trailer sets it up wrong sometimes, because then you're more surprised and impressed by the film.

The lead guy Romain Duris is pretty good - not the typical heart-throb like Will Smith. I really liked this film though, shame the cinema screen I saw it in wasn't quite so great for subtitled films..ahh well.
