Welcome to "Cinema Herald". My aim is to bring movie reviews to a somewhat different level. I don't know about you guys but I'm sick and tired of Critics who dissect a movie to bits. Who cares about all that deep stuff, sometimes you just want to know if you'll be entertained or not. Is it worth me spending $10? Now don't get me wrong, sometimes when we watch a movie, it does require us to put on our thinking caps and I'll do that from time to time depending on the film I review but for the most part, I just want to know if I'm going to have a laugh or a cry or even crap my pants - in other words, will it take my mind off the fact that I'm broke and my rent is due for a few hours? Movies are a public service...they are to help us escape for a few hours and forget that we're overworked and under paid.

Dark Honeymoon (2008) with trailer

Dark Honeymoon (2008) film

The poster makes it look interesting doesn't it? The very short blurb I read made it sound good too, something about a couple getting married after knowing each other for a short time and how her dark secrets start to come out during the honeymoon. Well as the movie was (finally) ending I thought to myself, wow what a waste of time, I could have been watching a good movie all this time.

After the first ten minutes I was tempted to turn it off, but no I told myself. Just give it a chance and find out what this secret is (and the twist ending I heard about). Well I'll tell you what the secret is. The secret is that the copywriter was better at their job than the screenwriter and director were at theirs.

It is supposed to be about a man who marries a woman he has known for only three weeks. The funny thing is, I don't recall it ever being mentioned in the movie and I'm not about to watch it twice to see if I missed it. But the trailer said three weeks. Then while on their honeymoon, it seems she has a secret and people keep ending up dead all around them.

The majority of the movie is told as flashbacks and flashbacks within flashbacks. It starts with the husband being arrested for a body thats found in the trunk of his car. He's telling his story to the detective through these flashbacks. He tells them his wife is a murderer and is still out there, probably killing even more people.

The first killing happens while the couple is on the way to their honeymoon motel when they stop at a gas station. A rude customer cuts in line and is later found dead in the bathroom. Pretty quickly we find out she has some marriage code that others should be following, otherwise she kills them.

The choreography of the killing scenes is awful. She would swing an object to hit someone with it and you could see about 12 inches of space between the object and the person. This would have been funny if I wasn't so bored waiting for the big twist ending.

Ah the big twist at the ending. It really is at the ending, about the last minute or so of the movie in fact.I won't give it away though in case someone who reads this still decides to watch the movie. Although I really couldn't give it away if I wanted to because it made no sense whatsoever. So I actually did a search of other reviews of this film and I can't find a single one that understands what happened at the end. I'm pretty sure I know what we are supposed to think it means, but that would also mean a good 70% or more of the movie makes no sense.

David O'Malley if you are reading this PLEASE explain WTF the ending meant. I believe ALL of us who watched this will be grateful.

As awful as this movie is I am in a one way happy to see it was made. Because this gives me as well as others hope that even if we don't have talent, it is possible to write a screenplay and get it produced. And that as we have always heard about the biz, it's about who you know, not if you have talent.

The trailer is sort of a behind the scenes video.
