Movie ratings by country

October 10th 2008 05:54
Here are the movie ratings used by a few different countries. I thought it would be interesting to see how the different countries break it down.

United States

* G -General Audiences. All ages admitted.
* PG - Parental Guidance Suggested. Some material may not be suitable for children.
* PG-13 - Parents Strongly Cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
* R - Restricted. Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian.
* NC-17- No one 17 and under admitted.

United Kingdom

* U - Universal, suitable for all.
* PG - All, Parental Guidance is recommended.
* 12- No one under 12 years of age may see a "12" film.
* 15 - No one under 15 years of age may see a "15" film.
* 18 - Suitable only for adults. No one under 18 years of age may see an "18" film.

Australia

* G - Suitable for all viewers.
* PG - Parental Guidance recommended for children under 15 years of age.
* M - Mature, recommended for audiences 15 years and over.
* MA - Mature Accompanied. No children under 15 can see "MA" films or rent them on video unless accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
* R - Restricted. No one under 18 may view these movies in a cinema or rent them on videocassette.

New Zealand
Their rating system is a bit more complicated than others. They have an R??, where any age can be inserted after the R(restricted), with R13 being the most common.

* G - Unrestricted. Anyone can be shown or sold this.

* PG - Unrestricted. Parental guidance may be needed for younger viewers.
* M - Unrestricted. More suitable for viewers over 16 years.
* R?? - It is illegal for anyone to show or sell this to someone under ?? years of age.
* RP13 - It is illegal to show or sell this to someone under under 13 years of age unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
* RP16 - It is illegal to show or sell this to someone under under 16 years of age unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
